Oman’s state-led upstream oil firm PDO has awarded a contract to a consortium led by Japan’s Marubeni for a 100MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant to provide additional electricity for in-field operations in southern Oman.

The plant will be built in the desert at the Amin field to help power PDO’s main oil producing operations in the massive Block 6, where output has been boosted in recent years by an extensive exploration and development campaign to overcome natural reservoir declines (MEES, 7 September).
