Omani power demand is set to rocket over the next five years, offtaker Nama Power and Water Procurement (Nama PWP) says. Where three-years ago it was expecting average demand growth on the primary MIS grid of 2.2% per annum between 2022 and 2029, it now sees it growing by a massive 7.2% each year to reach 79.3TWh in 2031. Peak demand is projected to increase by 7.2% each year to 12.2GW over the same timeframe (see chart 1).
Oman Lays Out Plan For 30% Renewables By 2030
Oman will need to add 7.5GW of renewable capacity to achieve its target of 30% power generation from green energy sources by 2030. That is sufficient to displace around 3bcm of annual gas consumption.
