Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity has massively hiked its power capacity development plans in a bid to keep pace with rising demand. 20GW of freshly-announced coal-fired capacity as well as 4.3GW of renewables are part of a push to reduce dependence on Egypt’s stretched gas supplies.

Egypt has over the past 10 days announced plans for an additional 24.3GW of incremental power generation capacity – 20GW of coal and 4.3GW of renewables. This comes in addition to 4.33GW of gas and oil-fired plants under development, 4GW of planned nuclear capacity and 3GW of previously-announced new coal-fired plant. (CONTINUED - 714 WORDS)
