Egypt’s gas consumption continues to set seasonal records. After reaching a record April figure of 6.34bn cfd, demand rose to 6.39bn cfd in May, Jodi data show, the highest level ever recorded for the month.
Rising demand comes as domestic gas production remains at multi-decade lows, averaging just 3.86bn cfd in May according to Ministry of Petroleum data (see p16). To bridge the widening supply gap, LNG imports are running at close to record levels, and imports of pipeline gas from Israel are poised to increase from1bn cfd to around 1.2-1.3bn cfd after the recent completion of debottlenecking work (MEES, 10 July).
