The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the 1.8GW Khairan-1 gas-fired power plant and 150mn³ desalination plant on 31 August, in the latest sign of much-needed progress in expanding the country’s power generation capacity. The announcement follows last month’s award of the $4bn+ Az-Zour North 2&3 power and water desalination plant to a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power (MEES, 15 August).
The deadline for receiving technical and commercial bids from shortlisted bidders has been set as 31 December, and an award could be made in 2026.
