Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York on 20 September, QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi said the company is preparing to start up its first overseas petrochemicals facility this year. He said the $8.5bn ‘Golden Triangle’ polymer complex (Chevron Phillips 51%, QatarEnergy 49%) “is starting commissioning and it should be starting up in the next few weeks.”
The Texas-based facility features a 2.08mn t/y ethane cracker, making it the world’s largest. The ethylene produced will feed two 1mn t/y high-density polyethylene units. (CONTINUED - 734 WORDS)
