QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi told the Qatar Economic Forum this week that the company is looking to enter Venezuela’s upstream: “We have talked with some of our partners about entering into Venezuela, and we are looking at that seriously,” he told the conference.
The company has invested heavily in overseas assets, partnering with many of the IOCs that are already in Venezuela. An entry by QatarEnergy would follow fellow Qatari firm UCC Holding, which recently joined a consortium with BP and Adnoc’s international subsidiary XRG to develop the offshore Loran gas field (MEES, 14 August).
