*Egypt’s gas consumption hit monthly records for each of the first six months of 2021 with the 6.07bn cfd 1H 2021 average up 9% on 1H 2020 and also well above 2019’s previous high of 5.81bn cfd. Consumption has progressively risen to hit 6.43bn cfd for June, up 560mn cfd year-on-year and some 220mn cfd above the previous record June figure set in 2018. As such this summer’s peak demand is set to surpass the monthly record of 6.50bn cfd set in July and August 2018 (see chart 1). The current month has already seen record daily gas use of 6.97bn cfd set on 4 and 5 August (MEES, 13 August).
