Abu Dhabi’s Masdar signed an agreement on 16 January with Egypt’s Infinity Energy to establish Infinity Power, a JV that plans to develop utility-scale and distributed solar power and wind projects in Egypt and Africa. Masdar CEO Mohamed al-Rahami says the JV will “unlock opportunities to further Egypt’s renewable energy goals and extend energy access to those areas of Africa that are under-powered.”

Infinity Energy – operating as Infinity Solar – was a partner in the first project online in Egypt’s Benban Solar Park, starting up a 50MW plant in February 2018. Infinity Solar was named as lead developer in two Benban projects brought online in July 2019 and partner in one brought online in September 2019. Capacity of these four plants is 180MW (MEES, 1 November 2019). Infinity Solar operates a total of 235MW capacity, including another project at Benban plus one in 6th of October city, a Cairo suburb.
