Abu Dhabi’s power generating capacity reached a record 16.62GW by the end-2017, which was 53% higher than the emirate’s 10.88GW peak electricity demand, according to newly released data from state utility Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Company (Adwec).

The UAE’s largest emirate has backed up its emergence as a global economic hub with investment in power generating capacity, which has risen almost fivefold from 3.34GW in 1998, according to Adwec, while peak demand has risen less than fourfold from 2.87GW to 10.9GW (see chart 1).
