Tunisia’s ambitious subsea interconnection project with Italy (ELMED) is finally moving toward development after completion of the procurement process.
After years of financing delays and recent global disruptions (MEES, 18 August 2023), Tunisian state firm STEG and Italian operator Terna this week awarded Japan’s Hitachi Group a €770mn ($873mn) contract for the design, supply, and construction of converter stations (AC to/from DC) for the interconnection.
