The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has launched an investigation into a second Cyprus-linked energy-focused infrastructure project that has received EU funding, it was revealed earlier this month.
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides told reporters on 3 September that the EPPO is investigating potential “criminal offences” linked to the $2bn Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project that is intended to connect the Cypriot and Greek electricity grids via a 1GW subsea cable (MEES, 27 October 2023). The 898km cable would connect Cyprus and Crete, where the Ariadne interconnection with mainland Greece began testing earlier this year. Ariadne does not form part of the GSI. (CONTINUED - 702 WORDS)
