On 2 November, QatarEnergy announced that it had awarded Korean firm Samsung C&T Corporation the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a 4.1mn t/y carbon capture and storage project at its existing 77mn t/y LNG facilities. This is part of Doha’s dual-track strategy to deploy carbon capture and renewable power facilities to lower the carbon emissions of its operations.
“This milestone project builds upon our growing carbon capture and sequestration capabilities, which reinforce our position as a reliable provider of affordable lower-carbon energy,” says energy minister and QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi. “All our LNG expansion projects will deploy CCS technologies, with an aim to capture over 11 MTPA of CO 2 by 2035.” (CONTINUED - 755 WORDS)
