Morocco has declared 31 October a national holiday to mark the day the UN Security Council (UNSC) voted in favor of a US-backed resolution supporting its ‘Autonomy Plan’ for the disputed Western Sahara territory, despite fierce opposition from rival Algeria, who chose not to participate in the vote.

Known as Unity Day, the new holiday will celebrate Morocco’s “national unity and territorial integrity,” according to a royal palace statement. (CONTINUED - 919 WORDS)
