The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) delivered a record 114.6TWh in electricity to consumers last quarter, its Q3 results show. Electricity consumption has been on a steep upwards trajectory in recent years, and has accelerated further this year (see chart 1) amid strong economic growth and the growing electrification of the economy. Total consumption of 275TWh over the first nine months of the year was up 7% year-on-year.

Saudi Arabia’s grid supplied a record 114.6TWh of electricity in Q3, with the year-to-date total up 7% on the same period last year. Despite this growth, oil burn is falling and the gains are set to continue as renewables and gas availability increases and the SEC makes progress on converting existing power plants to run on gas.
