Last year was shaping up as a lackluster one in terms of LNG exports for Egypt, especially following the March shut-down of its only operational LNG export plant, the 7.2mn t/y ELNG facility at Idku (MEES, 10 April 2020). But a late-year rally, with a colder than forecast winter in Asia, saw a total of 34 cargoes or approximately 2.24mn tons, exported between November and February. This is the highest for any comparable four-month winter peak since 37 cargoes were exported between November 2011 and February 2012 (see chart 1).
