UAE firm Dragon Oil, through its Gupco joint operating company with Egyptian state oil firm EGPC, has contracted services giant SLB for a 1,035km² ocean-bottom-node (OBN) 3D seismic survey across its central and southern Gulf of Suez acreage. The program is due to begin in November and run for around two years, covering about 80% of Gupco’s development areas.
The work follows a 2020 OBN survey covering more than 350km², the first of its kind in the central Gulf of Suez. Dragon Oil says data processed in 2022 helped identify drilling targets for five exploration wells, four of which were successful and added around 40mn barrels of oil initially in place.
