Qatar’s electricity consumption fell below 2019 levels in October according to the government’s latest statistics. Consumption peaked at an all-time high of 5.83TWh in July and remained at historically high figures over the summer.

Qatar’s summer 2020 record stemmed from the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Travel restrictions meant that residents were unable to travel abroad, driving up aircon use. October’s powergen figure was down 12% year-on-year, but was still the second-highest October on record.
