Kuwaiti state refiner KNPC is beginning to put new units at its two refineries through their paces and the impact on the emirate’s products output is being felt. The latest Jodi data shows that fuel oil output jumped in October, suggesting that an upgrading unit was temporarily offline. This followed a jump in gasoline output.

The work is part of the Clean Fuels Project (CFP) upgrade of Kuwait’s Mina al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah refineries. CFP will raise their combined crude distillation capacity from 736,000 b/d to 801,000 b/d, upgrade transport fuels output to Euro-5 standards and virtually eliminate fuel oil production.
