Israel Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz on 19 December said that the country’s largest ever gas discovery, the 21.4tcf Leviathan field, will begin producing “on Monday [23 December].”

This came after the Jerusalem District Court on 19 December cleared seemingly the last obstacle to start up as it lifted an injunction from environmental groups. They have claimed that emissions from the platform which will process the gas, situated just 10km off the coast of Dor in northern Israel, will be dangerous to local air quality.
