Saudi Arabia’s state owned power and water firm Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has awarded contracts for two desalination plants that will take the total desalination capacity under development in the kingdom to 1.1mn cmd.

SWCC has awarded US firm Black & Veatch an engineering design consultancy contract for the Jeddah 4 desalination plant, which will “augment dramatically water supply in Saudi Arabia’s second largest city.” The company has also contracted Japan’s Itochu and Sasakura Engineering to expand the existing Shuaiba Phase 2 desalination plant.
