Jordan’s energy bill currently absorbs a massive 40% of the total state budget, a situation which is “no longer sustainable,” Prime Minister ‘Abd Allah al-Nusur warns. Jordan is totally dependent on imported energy, although it is developing two power plants with a combined capacity of 1.4GW in anticipation of locally-produced shale oil (see p12).
