Iran has doubled the price of gasoline for consumers buying more than 110 liters a month. From 8 September, purchases above the first- and second-tier quota limits cost 10,000 toman/l ($0.043/l), up from 5,000 toman/l ($0.021/l). The move aims to curb consumption amid gasoline shortages after the US blockade restricted imports (MEES, 14 August).
In December, Iran introduced a three-tier monthly quota system: the first 60 liters at 1,500 toman/l ($0.006/l), the next 100 liters at 3,000 toman/l ($0.013/l), and higher volumes at 5,000 toman/l ($0.021/l).
