Canada’s Anatolia Energy on 26 September announced that the Guvenir-1 well, spudded in August in Turkey’s Antep license area, has been suspended at a depth of 1,956 ms after having provided no evidence of the Dadas shale formation although there were “hydrocarbon shows.” The well, operated by Turkey’s Calik Enerji, is the first drilled in an unexplored basin that covers 845,418 acres and holds prospective resources estimated at 318mn barrels (MEES, 27 August).

Anatolia said that a detailed analysis of the data will be required to assess the full potential of the zone. It said the well bore will be available for re-entry pending further interpretation of the seismic and well data. The Calgary-based firm is preparing for additional drilling in the area in 2013 and plans fracture stimulation tests in the Bismil license area. (CONTINUED - 234 WORDS)
