Turkey is once again upping the ante offshore Cyprus, with its ‘Yavuz’ drillship on course to drill a third well in the Republic of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Turkey disputes Cyprus’ claimed maritime boundaries, which are in line with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Despite the EU threatening sanctions, Turkey has not hesitated to drill around Cyprus, with ‘Fatih’ drilling to the west of the island in October and ‘Yavuz’ drilling south of the northeast corner of the island in August (MEES, 11 October 2019). (CONTINUED - 469 WORDS)
