The Houthi advance reached Dhubab on 11 September, giving the Iran-backed group control of Yemen’s Red Sea coastline as far south as the Bab al-Mandeb. This followed the capture of Mocha the previous day and the seizure of Hanish islands. Together, the gains provide a substantial strategic advantage in the Houthis’ attempt to control the chokepoint (see map).
