US President Donald Trump is ratcheting up the economic pressure on Iran in a bid to force it to compro-mise. Years of sanctions, followed by this year’s destructive military campaign, have not persuaded Teh-ran to make substantive concessions. Will even tighter sanctions succeed?
On 19 August, Mr Trump posted on social media that Washington would launch the “MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY!” to further isolate Iran’s economy.
