Gas is increasingly central to Saudi Aramco’s growth strategy, generating substantial free cash flow and supporting the kingdom’s broader industrial expansion plans. Aramco aims to increase production of natural gas and associated liquids from around 3.3mn barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day currently to 6mn boe/d by 2030, and expects this will generate $12-15bn of incremental operating cash flow (MEES, 2 October).
This expansion project will increase sales gas output by 80% from a 2021 baseline, and also generate substantial volumes of liquids. The largest project is the Jafurah Basin unconventional development that is intended to produce 2bn cfd of sales gas, 420mn cfd ethane (126,000 boe/d) and 630,000 b/d of NGLs and condensate by 2030.
