Abu Dhabi state energy firm Adnoc announced on 2 May that its new LNG export facility is now to be developed in Ruwais instead of in Fujairah. The planned 9.6mn t/y liquefaction plant will more than double Adnoc’s existing 5.8mn t/y LNG export capacity as Adnoc seeks to tap into growing global demand for the fuel.

When Adnoc announced the planned project in 2021 it did not specify a location, saying it was evaluating potential options. But Fujairah seemed to have been locked-in as the location when US contractor McDermott was last year awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a Fujairah-located facility (MEES, 13 May 2022). As recently as February, Adnoc’s newly formed Adnoc Gas subsidiary was referencing “the Fujairah LNG plant construction project” (MEES, 24 February). (CONTINUED - 894 WORDS)
