Austrian firm OMV is currently testing wellheads at its Block S2 in Yemen’s central Shabwa basin, CEO Rainer Seele tells MEES.
“We’ve done some tests, [with] some production, but right now it’s too early to know if production can be stable,” Mr Seele said on the sidelines of the Opec Seminar in Vienna on 21 June. “The challenge is not the reservoirs, the challenge is our wellheads and the reliability of the infrastructure… a very similar situation to Libya.”
Showing little by way of risk aversion, the OMV chief also said the firm remains "completely committed" to its Libya holdings despite ongoing instability.
