The Yemen conflict has intensified as the Houthis seek to consolidate their territorial gains along the Red Sea coast following last week’s rapid advances. The armed forces of the internationally recognized government have managed to push back against the Houthis after last week’s retreat, aided by airstrikes from Saudi Arabia, the main backer of the Yemeni government.
The fiercest fighting has occurred around the recently captured city of Mocha, and the regions south of the vital port city (see map & MEES, 11 September). Both sides also continue to clash further inland from Mocha, including around the oil and gas-rich heartlands in Marib. (CONTINUED - 794 WORDS)
