Oman’s gas sector has grown rapidly in recent years, with international companies developing projects to meet growing domestic demand and supply global LNG markets. Energy Oman (formerly Energy Development Oman: EDO) now plans a new phase of gas developments.
The company was formed in 2020 to take the government’s stake in the country’s massive Block 6 (Energy Oman 60%, Shell 34%, Total 4%, PTTEP 2%), operated by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). By establishing Energy Oman, Muscat transferred financial responsibility for upstream investments from the government to the new company, hoping also to encourage more efficient development of resources.
