TotalEnergies’ new proposal to partner with ConocoPhillips to develop Iraq’s Nahr Bin Umar field has sparked competition among IOCs for the gas-rich Basra oil field. Total CEO Patrick Pouyanné and Conoco CEO Andy O’Brien met Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Baghdad on 11 October to discuss “mechanisms to invest in oil and associated gas development” at the field.
