Sixty-five years on from the founding of OPEC at the historic Baghdad Conference of 10-14 September 1960, how has the composition of the global energy mix changed? The answer provides an illuminating insight, particularly given the continued push by some today to limit and reduce the use of hydrocarbons.
Back in 1960, oil represented 34.7% of the global energy mix, coal was at 37.4% and gas was at 11.9%. Collectively, this covered about 84% of the total.
