Israel has carried out 15 waves of airstrikes against targets in Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen over the past year. Many have hit the key Red Sea ports of Hodeidah or Ras Issa, striking at the heart of the Houthi’s economy and energy infrastructure. The group’s decentralized networks developed to cope with such attacks have managed to limit the impact on their operations, but not offset it entirely.

Most recently, Israel says it struck the site of a meeting of senior Houthi leaders on 28 August in Sana’a, the capital of Houthi-controlled Yemen. Four days earlier Israeli jets bombed the Presidential Palace compound, the Hiziaz (also known as Haziz or Hezyaz) power station, the Asr electricity distribution station in the east of the city, and a fuel depot operated by the Houthi-controlled Yemen Petroleum Company.
