A massive 20% year-on-year increase in US LNG exports over the first half of the year helped it open up a commanding lead over other producers as the global No.1. US LNG exports jumped by 9mn tons over this six month period to a record 51.2mn tons according to Kpler data, well above Qatar at 41.3mn tons and Australia at 38.6mn tons.
The gap could widen further over the next six months, as the US continues to bring new capacity online. The IEA expects that the US will add a total of 17mn t/y capacity this year through increments from three projects; primarily from the 13.3mn t/y Plaquemines Phase 1 facility which has been ramping up operations since December, but also with increments from the 18mn t/y Golden Pass and 10mn t/y Corpus Christi Phase 3.
