Israel expects to end the use of coal in its power mix by the end of next year, pushing back previous plans by twelve months. State utility IEC, which operates all the country’s coal fire power capacity, tells MEES that after end-2026 it still expects to maintain four 360MW units in hot reserve until the end of 2028, after the 12-day war with Iran in June highlighted the precarious nature of the country’s power supply (MEES, 25 July).
