The world’s largest single LNG project in history just got bigger. In a 25 February announcement Saad al-Kaabi, Energy Minister and CEO of QatarEnergy, revealed another expansion to the emirate’s already massive North Field LNG expansion project. Dubbed North Field West (NFW), the new 16mn t/y addition will drive total LNG capacity to 142mn tons by the end of this decade. This is up 13% from the previous goal of 126mn t/y, and 85% from current 77mn t/y capacity (see chart 1).
