Adnoc announced on 3 October that it has signed an agreement with US firm Occidental (Oxy) to “undertake a joint preliminary engineering study for the construction of the first megaton-scale direct air capture (DAC) facility outside the United States (US).”

Adnoc is implementing a $15bn strategy to decarbonize its operations through a multi-pronged approach which includes the electrification of its operations, purchase of clean-generated electricity, development of carbon capture projects (MEES, 6 October) and studying cutting-edge projects such as DAC and CO₂ mineralization (MEES, 20 January).
