Egypt’s thirst for gas as it looks to keep LNG exports at near record levels amid outages at key offshore gas fields has worked out well for Israel which is supplying record volumes to its Arab neighbor.

Egypt imported a monthly record 720mn cfd from Israel in March (MEES, 20 May), whilst the latest filings from key Israeli producers NewMed Energy and Isramco show that of Israel’s 2.091bn cfd Q1 gas output, 1.263bn cfd was sold domestically and 275mn cfd piped to Jordan, whilst Egypt’s takings of 553mn cfd accounted for a record 26.5% of Israel’s gas output (see chart 1).
