Drilling firm Valaris on 21 November announced it has been awarded a contract to drill four wells for BP in the Egyptian Mediterranean. The $136mn contract for the Valaris DS-12 drillship “is expected to commence late in the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter 2023 and has an estimated duration of 320 days,” Valaris says.

BP has two key areas of assets offshore Egypt. At fields north of the Nile Delta it partners with Eni (MEES, 4 November) and recently awarded a seismic contract for the area surrounding the Atoll field on BP's North el Tabya block (MEES, 8 July). BP also operates the deepwater West Nile Delta fields to the west where output has been in rapid decline but BP eyes potentially bolstering output with the development of fields on its recently-awarded North King Mariut block (MEES, 1 July).
