Having nudged ahead of Qatar in 2020, Australia solidified its position as the global No.1 LNG exporter in 2021. Preliminary figures from data intelligence firm Kpler put Australia’s 2021 exports at 80.2mn tons, 2.4mn tons ahead of Qatar (see chart 1).

Having been overtaken by Australia in 2020, Qatar’s LNG exports face being overhauled by the US this year. But Doha’s time away from the summit is likely to be short-lived, with major expansion work progressing.
