While the UAE and Saudi Arabia have taken the lead when it comes to the newly-fledged hydrogen industry in the Middle East, both state-run and private firms in Egypt are now looking at pilot projects and feasibility studies to produce hydrogen in the country, both for local consumption and possibly export.

It all kicked off in January when Siemens Energy, the gas and power focused spin-off of the eponymous German giant, signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to study a pilot project for green hydrogen production in Egypt (MEES, 9 July). That LoI progressed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 24 August and Siemens says it will cooperate with Egypt state utility EEHC to “jointly develop a hydrogen-based industry in Egypt with export capability.” (CONTINUED - 880 WORDS)
