Petropars is on a roll. Days after being awarded a $1.78bn contract to develop the 23tcf gas in place Farzad B gas field (MEES, 21 May), the state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) subsidiary has moved ahead with drilling awards at the 140,000 b/d South Azadegan oil field.

Under the contracts, 25 new wells will be drilled by local Iranian firms Dana Energy Company and Tadbir Drilling Development Company (TDDC). Petropars says that along with 10 wells previously awarded to the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), no further drilling will be required to bring South Azadegan capacity up to 320,000 b/d in 2023.
