Iraq and Abu Dhabi state firm Masdar are advancing major solar PV development plans intended to tackle Iraq’s crippling electricity shortages. Having signed a heads of agreement (HoA) for 2GW in June (MEES, 25 June), an ‘implementation agreement’ for the first 1GW tranche was signed in Baghdad this week.

The signing ceremony was held on 6 October in the presence of Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, Oil Minister Ihsan Ismaael, Minister of Electricity Adel Karim and the UAE’s Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei. (CONTINUED - 622 WORDS)
