UAE state nuclear firm Enec announced 19 May the completion of cold hydrostatic testing at Unit 4 of the four-reactor 5.6GW nuclear power plant at Barakah. Enec tested the piping and components of the reactor pressure vessel and associated high pressure systems in a process indicating that mechanical completion of the final reactor is approaching. Ewec estimates the Barakah-4 reactor is around 85% complete. Enec has loaded fuel rods into the first reactor, Barakah-1, and is commissioning the plant (MEES, 8 May) having received an operating license in February after a three-year delay (MEES, 21 February).
