Tensions remain high between Africa’s two most populous countries, Egypt and Ethiopia, as the $5bn Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and associated 6GW hydropower plant – the largest in Africa – near completion. Originally slated for completion in July last year, and already heavily delayed, the project will be further pushed back by investigations launched in the wake of Ethiopia’s change of government earlier this year.
