Two months on from the 24 January ceasefire between the government of South Sudan and the rebels led by dismissed former vice president Riek Machar, politically-fueled ethnic violence continues.

East African states have set in action a previously-discussed plan to deploy troops to help enforce the now undermined ceasefire. Meanwhile the latest round of talks between the two factions, scheduled to begin on 20 March, has been delayed after Juba chose not to send a delegation to the talks in Addis Ababa because of a dispute over who should be represented.
