Gulf refiners are undertaking a busy schedule of upgrading and seasonal maintenance, as work continues on major new refinery and clean fuel projects. While the region’s state petroleum companies are expanding crude distillation capacity to keep pace with rising domestic demand and bring in additional export revenue, they also face tighter fuel specifications.
Saudi Aramco started on 4 February to shut down its 124,000 b/d Riyadh refinery for one month of maintenance work, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) announced. Meanwhile, the company has received bids for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work on a clean fuels project at the Riyadh refinery and is looking to award the contract in the first quarter (MEES, 14 September 2012).
