It was the first official confirmation that the incident was a deliberate attack rather than an accident. Authorities said there were no injuries or fatalities. No group has claimed responsibility.
The statement followed initial assessments by British maritime security firms Ambrey and Vanguard that the FSRU had been struck by a drone. Reuters, citing trading and security sources, likewise reported that the fire began aboard the FSRU before spreading to the adjacent GasLog Salem, which was operating as a floating LNG storage unit.
